ARTIST STATEMENT

Irish Artist Ciano

As an Irish contemporary artist, my work is a colourful blend of many influences. These originate from my background as a DJ and producer, fused with a timeless sense of nostalgia. I draw from pop art, graffiti street art, neo-expressionism, and even floral compositions. The result is a series of mixed-media collages designed to pull viewers into a rich, multisensory experience.

In my process, I explore the synergy between music, pop culture, and consumerism — translating raw energy into a visual language. The use of mixed media allows me to layer contrasting elements, much like music production, resulting in a textured and dynamic visual rhythm.

The Making of a Visual Language

For example, a single piece might fuse a torn magazine clipping with a bold paint stroke or found-object pattern. This approach creates tension, evokes emotion, and invites interpretation.

Rooted in nostalgia, my work becomes a personal journey — a visual diary that echoes fragments of the past. As a result, memories and cultural references often reappear, building an emotional connection with the viewer through the familiar.

Furthermore, I aim to compose moods through shape and colour, similar to how music sets the atmosphere. My visual choices serve as orchestrations, guiding people through an immersive, layered experience.

What My Work Aims to Do

Ultimately, my art is a celebration of individuality and rebellion. Through this, I push past the expected and invite the viewer to reconsider how they see image, history, and meaning.

In doing so, I aim to spark a dialogue between the familiar and the avant-garde — letting people discover their own rhythm and response.
